The enigmatic dvsn longs for someone to trust and eventually gives into his feelings on the track. The production, vocals, lyrics-everything about "The Line" is really a moving experience.
In part because there's nothing tongue in cheek about it. Much like a lot of the long R&B songs of the '70s, stuff like "I Miss You" and "Cause I Love You," this is swinging for the fences, both in terms of sheer length and in other arrangement decisions, like the multi-tracked vocals. I respect it because you open yourself up to so much potential corniness attempting something like this, but dvsn and nineteen85 pull it off. What makes "The Line" great is the ambition and grandeur. Then you retrieve the lost two-tenths of that one song, which brings the count to 119. Of these roughly 220 songs, let's say about 75 percent of them are from 2015, 72 percent of those fall into pop, rap, R&B, dance, and other genres that Complex covers, so that brings us to 118.8 songs. At any given moment, there are about 90 songs on the Apple Music Hot Tracks list, 30 on your Discover Weekly collection on Spotify, and 100 songs on, go figure, the Billboard Hot 100.
